| Henrietta Pettit, 56, of Kelso died Aug. 25, 2009. |
Henrietta "Henri" Pettit 1952 - 2009 She was born Sept. 23, 1952, in Roseburg, Ore. Henri spent her childhood in Myrtle Creek, Ore., Rogersville, Mo., and Crescent City, Calif., before moving to Kelso, where she spent the remainder of her life as a loving wife and mother. She was a loyal and trusted friend to all who knew her. Henri passed away peacefully at the family home surrounded by her dear husband, beloved children, sisters and friends. Henri spent her life as a devoted wife and mother extraordinaire. Her special joy was always found in children; first her own, her nieces and nephews, and later her grandchildren, who were the delight of her life. The needs of a child always came first, and she delighted in showing them the respect children need to flourish and grow in dignity and confidence. As they grew and began to have families of their own, Henri became their "go-to" person for advice and guidance. Henri will live on in all the young adults who call her their "second mother" to this day. In later years Henri found time to devote to the passion she had for horses. She worked with her mother's horse stable in Toledo and trained one particular horse of her own just for the grandchildren. Levi was her "baby," and she spent many happy hours training and grooming him just for them. A special thank you to Tim, Lynn and Alice, who helped her care for Levi through her illness. If you knew Henri, you knew a storyteller beyond compare. She kept you spellbound and ultimately convinced that her Bigfoot adventures were proof positive of their existence. With her husband, children and grandchildren, Henri enjoyed many happy hours gardening. She truly had a green thumb and was especially skillful at designing flower-bed layouts and pots to generate the most spectacular color and fragrance. The family wishes to express its genuine gratitude to all those who contributed to the benefits held Nov. 13 at the Monticello and July 17 at the Regent. Henri was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd "Arky" Wilson; her mother, Marie Oakes; a brother, Hank Wilson; and two sisters, Chris Sanford and Linda Wilks. She is survived by her husband, Ron Pettit; three sons, William, Benjamin and Matthew, all in Kelso, and Bradley in California; two daughters, Carrie Little and Raeann Phillips, both of Kelso; seven grandchildren, Drake, Michelle, Chase, Coulden, Sydney, Haley and Wyatt; four sisters, Patty Shipley, Sue Thompson, Connie Ramsey and Heidi Catlin; and many beloved nieces and nephews. A celebration of Henri's life will be held at 3 p.m. today at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be made to Community Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632. Arrangements are by Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park & Crematory. |
